History
The Brunner family originates from the Kandertal and has been part of Wengen’s story since the very beginning of alpine tourism. In the 1890s, Ulrich Brunner established a small B&B, welcoming mainly British guests. Its success led to the construction of the Hotel Brunner in 1904, laying the foundation for a family tradition in hospitality.
The hotel was extensively refurnished in the 1970s, giving it its distinctive mix of early 1900s and 70s alpine charm. Beyond Wengen, the family also ran Restaurant Kolibri in Bern, a much loved two-storey restaurant and tea room just around the corner from the Bundeshausplatz.
Following the passing of Margrit Brunner in 2003, the hotel came under the leadership of Malika Brunner, the fourth generation of the Brunner family. Today, she runs the hotel together with her son, Tom Brunner, proudly representing the fifth generation and continuing the family’s longstanding tradition of hospitality.
